Our 15 Favorite Looks From Hollywood's Neon Makeup Trend

We love subtle, "no-makeup makeup" as much as the next person,В and as such, we wear it often (to the office, to meetings, to brunch, you name it). Sometimes, though, we feel the need to do away with neutrals and experiment with color. We see a matte cerulean blue eyeshadow or a bold chartreuse eyeliner, and suddenly, we're channeling our inner Jackson Pollock, treating our faces as our blank canvas.

This isn't an experience that's unique to us-that's at least if Instagram is any indication. Because, lately, we're seeing new bold and bright makeup looks infiltrate our feeds left and right. They're coming from every type of beauty authority, too, including influencers, editors, and celebrities (as for the latter, think of A-listers like Kendall Jenner, Emma Stone, and Tracee Ellis Ross). So we're calling it: these tastemakers have officially made neon makeup one of 2019's buzziest beauty trends. And here are our 15 favorite looks.

Shay Mitchell is the latest celeb to dabble in the neon makeup trend. Her makeup artist, Ash K. Holm, created this cool neon green cut crease using Fenty Beauty's eyeliner. We're guessing it's the shade Lime Feva from the Baeside Vivid Liquid Eyeliner Trio ($24).

Supermodel Shanina Shaik captioned this photo, which puts her graphic yellow eyeliner on display, "sharp yellow." It appears that she was on set for a Make Up For Ever shoot. We're guessing she's wearing the bright yellow shade from the brand's Special Effects Palette #1 ($29).

Although we've seen many blazing makeup looks before this, Emma Stone's neon green eye makeup was the look that first clued us in to the trend. Stone and her makeup artist, Rachel Goodwin, chose the glowing green ahead of a movie premiere at the New York Film Festival. Since Goodwin is a global makeup artist for NARS, we're assuming Stone's shadow came from the brand'sВ Moskova Quad Eyeshadow ($52), which features a bright green color. Perhaps she added a layer of the brand'sВ Hardwired Ecstasy Eyeshadow ($22) on top?В

Consider modelВ Paloma Elsesser's glowing green eyeliner to be the high-fashion way to partake in neon makeup. The trick is to keep the rest of the face fresh and dewy, so the eyeliner remains as the sole stand-out element. It's sporty and futuristic in the best way.В

Kendall Jenner is also into neon green. In this case, she wore flicked-out eyeliner to ring in the New Year, matching the bold hue to her top and jewelry.В We blame this look for making us reach for NYX'sВ Vivid Brights Eyeliner In Envy ($7), which looks like a spot-on dupe for whatever Jenner's makeup artist, Mary Phillips, might have used.В

Jenner is clearly a big proponent of neon makeup. From the moment we saw this neon orange eyeshadow, which was also courtesy of makeup artist Mary Phillips, we knew we would save it forever as a bold makeup reference point. (By the way, the actual product Phillips used is Danessa Myrick'sВ Waterproof Cushion Liner In Totally Tangerine $15).В

The other Jenner sister also took part in the neon trend, reaching for blazing yellow instead of glowing green. We like how she placed it only on the inner corners, for a bright and editorial pop of color. Since this is Kylie Jenner we're talking about, we're betting that the product she's wearing is from her own cosmetics line-namely the Kylie CosmeticsВ Lightyear Eyeshadow Single ($7).В

Makeup artist Pati Dubroff shared this throwback to her Instagram, which shows the bright yellow eye makeup she created for Margot Robbie last year at the Goodbye Christopher Robin premiere. The way she paired the bright yellow shadow with petal pink blush and lipstick is pure and utter perfection.В

Mary Phillips isn't leaving neon makeup to Kendall Jenner, alone. Here, Camila Coelho shows off a blazing red creation. It certainly makes the case for more neon red makeup looks, doesn't it?

You know it's trendy if Rihanna isВ wearingВ it, right? The multi-hyphenate singer, designer, and beauty brand owner wore neon pink eyeliner on her lids, then completed the look with matching lashes.В

She also posted this photo to her personal Instagram page to celebrate the release of Fenty Beauty's Vivid Eyeliner Trios ($24). We like the way she incorporated all three different neon shades into one cohesive liner look. It's the 'go big or go home' version of neon makeup, and it's no surprise it's approved by someone as trendy as Rihanna.

Tracee Ellis Ross also joined the neon brigade by wearing bright pink only in her inner corners (much like Kylie Jenner did with her neon yellow shadow). Pairing it with bold red lipstick makes it all the more eye-catching. According to this post from Ross's makeup artist, Matin, Senna Cosmetics eyeshadow was used. We're assuming it's the hot pink shade from the brand'sВ 80's Decade Palette ($40).

If it's not pink, it's purple. Ross posted this photo to Instagram, which shows Matin swiping an ultraviolet pigment along the crease of each eye. It's imperfect and editorial, just the way we like it.

One of the more unique takes on bright eye makeup comes from celebrity makeup artist Patrick Ta. He painted Olivia Munn's eyelids an electric shade of lavender that left us speechless. Look closely and you'll see that even her highlighter matches her eyeshadow; it's a holographic lilac color.

We can't not include this vivid blue eyeliner Rachel Goodwin created for French actress PomВ Klementieff. Look closely and you'll see the liner is paired with blue eyelashes. The products she used were Dior'sВ DiorShow On Stage Matte Blue Liquid Liner ($31) and DiorShow Pump and Volume mascaraВ In 260В ($30).В

In keeping with the neon makeup inspo, here's a roundup of the must-have products that will have you looking your best (and brightest).

Huda Beauty Neon Orange Obsessions Palette $29Shop

This year, Huda Beauty launched three neon palettes. All of them are bold and eye-catching and generally amazing, but we have a special love for this one, which is the neon orange palette. The ultra-pigmented shades range from goldenrod yellow to bright coral and blinding fuschia. It lets us mix and match colors to our heart's content.

Violet Voss Bright Vibes Neon Pressed Pigment Palette $30Shop

If you're not partial to one specific shade of neon, and you'd rather experiment with all of the colors of the rainbow, opt for this palette from Violet Voss. It houses 10 super pigmented pressed powders.

Urban Decay 24-7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Chaos $22Shop

Urban Decay's eyeliners are creamy and long-lasting. Plus, they come in a range of bold hues that you can mix and match. We like this vivid marine blue shade, called Chaos. For a pop of color, apply it only on the upper lash line. For a bolder look, apply it all over the lid before blending it up into the crease.
