There are certain eye shadow shades we apply almost mindlessly before going forth and wearing confidently. We're talking classics like the beiges, taupes, and browns that reside in almost every palette ever made. Personally, we also love wearing deep plum and violet shades, burgundy reds, and bright pinks. (As you can see, we kind of have a thing for warm-tone eye colors).
But on the flip side of that, there are some colors that we dabble in only occasionally, when we're feeling especially adventurous. We're referencing shades like orange, green, and what may be the most intimidating of all eye shadow shades: yellow. We love and admire them, but we find them to be just a little less wearable for everyday life.
Thanks to Margot Robbie, though, we're changing our minds-about yellow eye shadow, at least. At a premiere for her film Goodbye Christopher Robin, she appeared wearing sunflower-yellow eye shadow that left us stunned. Keep scrolling to see the full look!
Robbie's makeup artist, Pati Dubroff, posted the above photo on Instagram, captioning it "mellow yellow." We love that the color was kept most intense along the lash line and lid and blended up toward the brow bone in a delightfully sunny ombrГ© situation. Dubroff blended the shadow out perfectly to begin and end with the start and finish of Robbie's eyebrows, creating a look that perfectly accentuated and flattered her face shape.
It's so easy for yellow eye shadow to wash out pale skin, making it look dull or gray, but Robbie looked radiant. We think a lot of it had to do with the perfectly pink blush on the apples of her cheeks, which brought a pop of color and vivacity to her complexion (you know, that and her naturally flawless skin). Pair that with a light pink lip color and a fluttery mascara formula, and you've got a winning look that we can't stop staring at. It's so fresh and unexpected that we have hearts in our eyes.
Before Dubroff posted the photo of the final look, she shared an up-close photo of some bright yellow makeup products lying atop a table. From the looks of that, she used MAC Eye Shadow in Chrome Yellow ($16) across Robbie's lid. There's also a cream shadow in the photo, but which is unclear. We think it might be GivenchyOmbre Couture Cream Eyeshadow in No. 16 Jaune Aurora ($26) since it looks almost exactly like that neon punch of yellow IRL.
What do you think? If you're like us, you'll be scooping up a yellow shadow to try for yourself. We can't say we expected to wear such a bright, summery color throughout fall, but Robbie made it a must. After all, when inspiration strikes, we can't help but listen.
