Byrdie Australia: What's your approach to skincare?

Erin Maxwell: Skincare is an important part of my routine. Sometimes we buy into false Holy Grail products in search of the perfect complexion, but no product will ever be able to do it alone. I believe skincare feeds the skin on the outside, but only after we look inside and address issues beneath the surface. Since becoming a mum, I've invested more time in my routine and skin than ever before. Becoming a mum also means I've aged six years almost overnight, and with all these sleepless night I can't rely on beauty sleep anymore. Although, taking the time to invest in and look after my skin is such a high priority for me.В

B: How do you go about choosing products?

EM: Other than my treatment plan from Clinica Lase, I love recommendations from friends. If there's something they have been using and repurchasing, I'm all for it (especially if they similar skin concerns to me). My skin needs consistency, and when I'm onto a good thing and my skin is responding, I won't stray. I always look for good quality products without mineral oils and nasties.

B: Do you have any skincare issues you're currently treating?

EM: My self-diagnosed condition is “diva skin”. One month it's sensitive, and the next totally fine. I have a bit of pigmentation, but I'm having genesis treatments and using serums to correct it. And if I break out or feel sensitive, I love LED light therapy. My skin has done a complete 180 after having consecutively weekly visits.

B: What do you buy over and over?

EM: Aspect Active CВ ($129), Aspect Hyaluronic SerumВ ($129), Cosmedix Reflect SunscreenВ ($77), Ultraceuticals Ultra UV Protective ShieldВ ($69), and Osmosis CC CreamВ ($70).

B: Anything you'd never use on your skin?

EM: Anything too intense or active as I'm too sensitive.

B: Walk us through your current morning routine.В

EM: I start with Cosmedix Purity CleanВ ($68). It contains lactic acid to prep and clean the skin. Next, I use Aspect Hyaluronic SerumВ ($129)В and Active CВ ($129)В for hydration and brightening. My combination skin calls for moisture, so my go-to is TNS Ceramide Treatment CreamВ ($86). One step that I'll never bypass is a good quality sunscreen. Cosmedix ReflectВ ($77)В is nice and light, and good if you are prone to blocked pores. It's only SPF 15, but my final step is my IT Cosmetics CC CreamВ ($58) (it's a game-changer), and it has an SPF of 50+.В

B: Walk us through your current evening routine.

EM: As I mentioned, my diva skin needs consistency. I love to really clean my skin at night to remove dirt, oil, and makeup before I sleep. I start with Cosmedix Purity CleanВ ($68)В and follow with Cosmedix Purity Balance TonerВ ($68). I am quite oily and am prone to milia so this is amazing to prevent congestion. My nighttime serum is Cosmedix Serum 16В ($131),В followed by the TNS Ceramide Treatment CreamВ ($86).В

B: Which experts do you look to for your personal skin upkeep?

EM: The amazing team at Clinica LaseВ in Carlton have been looking after my skin for a few years (including my whole pregnancy), and I wish I had been seeing them sooner. I really trust them with my skin. The products and treatments and so tailored to what I need, and having a long-term plan is the best thing.
