A change of seasons means it's time to refresh your makeup bag. Fall is an excuse to experiment with moody lip colors and break out the eye shadow shades that felt like a bit much during the fresh-faced days of summer. Don't get us wrong-we love a good no-makeup makeup moment, but after months of barely-there color, we're ready for something more. And so is It girl Marianna Hewitt of Life With Me.
“I love fall beauty because in summer it's all minimal makeup, and in the fall, you can afford to put on more because it's not so hot out," says Hewitt. "So I love being able to experiment with more colors when it's not going to melt off my face." Her two favorite places to play up? Lips and lids-and this season, mauve lippies and copper shadows are dominating the beauty scene.

Between the brown lipstick on red carpets and the gray shades on the runways, earthy lip colors are definitely having a moment. Add cool pink undertones, and mauve becomes the wearable alternative. “It's really playful and feminine,” Hewitt says. “It's a nice touch of color without being overwhelming.”Kat Borchart
Hewitt's tip for pulling off the look is just to keep it simple. “Keep the focus on the lip. You could even pair it with a mauve-y blush, too, to tie in the color all over your face.” To create this look, we used MAC's Lipstick in Midimauve ($17) with a touch of Nars's Velvet Lip Glide in Bound ($26) on top. Just like the name implies, the finish on the Velvet Lip Glide is amazing. It's semi-matte, which is perfect when you're going for a mauve lip.
Copper Eye Shadow
Bronze may be the preferred choice for the golden goddess look of summer, but as the temperatures cool off, the trend shifts toward warmer colors-bring on the reds and coppers! Even our on-set makeup artist confirmed copper eyes are her most requested look lately. “It's one of those universal colorsВ that can look good on a lot of people regardless of your eye color and skin tone,” says Hewitt.В
She recommends finishing the look with glowy skin and a highlighted cheek.В Prep your skin with a rich moisturizer like Kiehl's Ultra Facial CreamВ ($48) and use a foundation with a radiant finish, like the EstГ©e Lauder Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant MakeupВ ($40) we used, to get a slightly dewy complexion.ВKat Borchart
We mixed the golden shade from Charlotte Tilbury's Luxury Palette Color-Coded Eyeshadows in The Vintage Vamp ($52) with the warm burgundy shade from the palette in The Dolce Vita ($52) to create a copper that's not too red. Hewitt's number one piece of advice for wearing copper or any high-impact shadow? Don't forget the mascara. “If you curl your lashes and have a great mascara, it makes a huge difference. It really just completes any eye makeup look.” We used a coat of Dior's Diorshow Mascara ($29) followed by Lancôme's Grandiôse Extreme Mascara ($32) to finish this look. For shadow-heavy looks, quality is key. To get the smoothest application, choose finely milled powders like these. And remember, you want shimmer (not glitter) for the copper eye look, to keep the look from getting costumey.
