My hair is important to me, and for some reason unbeknownst to me, being recognized as a blonde is just as significant. Yes, I identify as as naturally blond even though I dye my hair. Does that make me strange? Maybe, but staying loyal to blond hair dye (and part of my identity) means a few other things too. For one, my light hair, in some ways, dictates my makeup choices. Surely, I'm not suggesting you can't wear any makeup you want-regardless of hair color. But there are few tricks of the trade that keep your hair your face in a symbiotic relationship.
Below, makeup artists lay out a few guidelines for shades, textures, and products that will look best with blond hair-regardless of whether you've always been blond or just emerged from below the foils.
1. Bronze your complexionMake Terrazzo Bronzer in Tower Isle $32Shop
"Fair-skinned blondes can run the risk of looking 'washed out' when they go platinum. Swipe on a bit of bronzer on yourВ forehead, cheeks, and chin to make sure your bone structure doesn't get lost," says Kelli Bartlett, the director of artistry and education at Glamsquad.
2. Pair bold brows with bright lipsNyx Matte Lipstick in Pure Red $6Shop
"One of my favorite looks on a blonde is a bold brow and bright lip. You can have your brows tinted (or try it at home)," says Bartlett. "I'd recommend going two shades deeper than your natural color. Pair them with bright, cherry red or fuchsia on the lip-this combo gives balance to the face and is very chic."
3. Care for your under-eyesMake Up For Ever 5 Camouflage Cream Palette Color Correct & Concealer $40Shop
"Striking blond hair is an attention-grabbing look-it brings focus on your eyes and, unfortunately, can draw attention to your under-eye circles," says Bartlett. "Color-correct bluish-purple bags with a lavender (for fair skin), orange (for medium undertones), or red (for deep complexions) color corrector to help neutralize darkness before applying concealer."
4. Keep your skin tone in mindHonest Beauty Lip Gloss in Kind Kiss $18Shop
"You have to keep in mind your skin tone," says Honey Artists makeup artist Daniela Gozlan. "For light skin tones, peachy lip shades will work perfectly. Medium skin tones can play with cool and warm shades of pink and red on lips and cheeks. Tan and deep skin tones will want to opt for orange shades."
5. Add shimmer with earthy tonesShimmer Wash Eyeshadow $26Shop
"Bold but natural eyes look great on blondes. Shimmery looks using warm earthy tones, like a light copper shadow, will do the trick," says makeup artist Kristine Cruz at Antonio Prieto Salon.
