One of the most glorious aspects of being a beauty editor is the number of products we get to take for a test drive. Sure, we'd be lying if we said we weren't constantly surrounded by a mountain of bottles and tubes both in the office and in our apartments, but we approach that mountain eagerly, hiking boots in tow.
Each month, Byrdie editors will be sharing the products within that mountain that stood out the most. Maybe it was a peel that made our skin glow like J.Lo's or a hair mask that brought our dry strands back to life. Whatever it was, we're eager to share it with you so you can experience the same bliss that we did. Take a look at our favorites below.
Kelly Gallagher, senior social media editorBillie Razor $9Shop
"I tried the Billie razor and shave cream for the first time this month and I honestlyВ cannot stop telling everyone about it. I am super prone to razor burn, especially along my bikini line and after using this razor and cream I saw a significant decrease in the number of red bumps. There were still a few, but way less than I normally get after using a drugstore razor. I also love, love, love the smell of the body wash and will definitelyВ be reordering."
"I've always struggled with anxiety and this month has been particularly intense, so these CBD gummies have been a savior for me. While the taste can be a little tough to get past, the relaxing feeling is totally worth it. Pair a couple of these gummies with theirВ Amber & BergamotВ CBD Bath Soak, Maggie Roger's new album, and you've got a recipe for one very relaxing evening."
Lindsey Metrus, senior editorFeals 600 mg $75Shop
"It's easy to get conned by a CBD product, especially since many brands utilize misleading nomenclature and trick consumers into thinking the product actually contains CBD when in fact it could just be hemp seed oil, an ingredient that's been used in skincare for ages. CBD, on the other hand, is active with anti-inflammatory properties to help calm the skin, ease anxiety, and induce sleep.
"I'd be remiss to skip out on the CBD craze given it's in virtually every product category, so I've dipped my toe in by way of gummies and face oils. And, after recently meeting with the co-founder of Feals, a line of 100 percent pure ingestible CBD carried in MCT oil-or concentrated fatty acids that support the gut-I was even more intrigued. While it may be a bit pricey, know that every bottle is quality-tested to the Nth degree: in fact, the company tests every batch they produce by a third party lab to ensure purity and consistency.
"The first time I tested Feals, I deposited 20 mg of the 600 mg iteration underneath my tongue and let it do its thing. Coincidentally, I had a big work conversation on deck and was already dreading it, but after a few drops, I was relaxed and unusually calm (in the best way). Normally, when I'm nervous, my stomach turns and my heart pounds, but I was cool, calm, and collected. I now keep a bottle on my desk and take a few drops when I'm feeling stressed and it centers me tenfold."Maison Margiela Replica - Jazz Club $126Shop
"The last two times I saw my sister-in-law, I commented on how good she smelled, and it turns out the smoky fragrance with hints of vanilla musk is Jazz Club by Maison Margiela. The description is "heady cocktails and cigars," which makes me feel like I'm slinging dirty martinis in a dimly-lit speakeasy every time I wear it."
Faith Xue, editorial directorMineral Maison 250mg of Hemp $70Shop
"I've been obsessed with understanding CBD lately, not only because I seem to receive a new CBD-infused product every day, but because I keep hearing first-hand accounts of how it's changed people's lives. It's hard not to be a believer, but there's alsoВ soВ much fuzzy green-washing and marketing speak out there. Thus, I was slightly dubious when I received a jar of this CBD balm from a company called Mineral. I put it on my nightstand and admired the way it looked-and that was all. Then, one night, I experienced a sudden head-splitting headache before bed. I really try to avoid popping painkillers whenever I can, and suddenly remembered that CBD can help soothe inflammation and pain. I blearily picked up my Maison, swirled my fingers around, and gently rubbed the buttery balm onto my temples. I loved the way it smelled-slightly minty, slightly herbal-but more than that, I was amazed at the fact that a mere few minutes later, my headache had disappeared. I remember feeling vaguely shocked before immediately drifting off into dreamland. A few weeks later, the same thing happened-I was exhausted and feeling a slight headache coming on, so dabbed on my Mineral Maison. Again, the headache disappeared and I was asleep within minutes. The soothing benefits of the hemp oil are amplified by a special blend of terpenes, which are specifically meant to decrease inflammation in the body. It's my new favorite thing on my nightstand."
"I am, as some would call it, a highlighter fiend. I prefer cream formulas over powders, and will usually swatch anything vaguely dewy-looking or shimmery that comes by my desk. My current new favorite is this stick from Bodygraphy. One end is a pearly, taupe-y shimmer which gives off major glow if you swipe a few times, and one side just gives a sheer, dewy finish. As someone who likes options, I appreciate the fact that this little stick gives me plenty of ways to give off a (self-proclaimed) angelic glow. Get you a highlighter that can do both, am I wrong?"
I usually gravitate towards more niche fragrance brands with sleek fonts and minimalist packaging, but one spritz of Bond No.'s new Greenwich Village fragrance, and I knew I had found my new favorite scent-even if it comes in a bright turquoise star-shaped bottle. It's described as "spicy gourmand with a touch of light florality," but I think some of the compliments I got the night I wore it to a friend's birthday do it better justice. Below are actual things people said to me this night (you bet I jotted them down in my notes):
В "You smell like an angel."
"You smell like a flower I want to eat."
"You smell like a rainbow. No, Lisa Frank."
"You smell like a cupcake."
I seriously have never gotten as many compliments as I did the night I wore this perfume. If you're into technicalities, the scent features top notes of heliotrope and bois d'encens, middle notes of tonka bean and amber, and a warm base of sensual musk and santal. It's all-around intoxicating, and I spritz myself whenever I need a confidence boost (and just want to smell like an angel). I think I might wear this until the end of time. And if you don't believe me, just ask my friends.
Hallie Gould, senior editorCare Skincare Deep Moisture Fix Hydrating Water Cream $35Shop
"This is my new cure-all moisturizer. The brand, Care, is a recently-launched clean skincare brand, and it's quickly becoming one of my absolute favorites. The formula includes all good things-hyaluronic acid, aloe, vitamins C and E, as well as caffeine-toВ hydrate, brighten, protect, nourish, and firm your skin. That, and it feels so good to apply. It's cooling, feather-light, packs a ton of moisture, and makes my skin gleam throughout the day. I keep it at my desk so I can reapply whenever I'm feeling sallow or dry (or bored). I even throw in a quick facial massage if I'm feeling up to it. I can't wait for this brand to become one of the cult classics (because it rules), and, if you're in the market for an eye cream, try Care's Eye + Lip Nourishing Cream as well."Noto Botanics Hydra Highlighter Pot $27Shop
"Gloria Noto, a makeup artist and founder of organic beauty brand Noto Botanics, blessed my face with this product and I'm in deep. It is such a perfect highlighter. I scrape a bit out from the pot with a clean finger (you can also get the stick version, FYI), warm the product up on the back of my hand, and apply the soft wash of shine to the high points of my face. It yields a gloriously sheer, dewy glow that hydrates and heals as it highlights. I'm very picky about highlighters and this one has passed every test with flying colors. It's my new go-to and I'm never going back."Olaplex No. 6 Bond Smoother $28Shop
"I'm a wash-and-go type of gal when it comes to my hair and only really apply one product post-shower. So, that product has to do a lot of heavy lifting (volumizing, protecting, nourishing, hydrating… you get the idea). Since the previous Olaplex launches have practically transformed my once over-processed, breakage-prone hair, I was ready and willing to try any new product the brand deemed worthy. This one, Olaplex's first-ever leave-in formula, checked all the boxes. It infuses all the goodness of the masks and conditioners, but it's light enough to use as a styling cream. I apply it on towel-dried hair right out of the shower and it keeps my curls looking shiny, healthy, and happy until my next wash."
