Joanna Vargas Shares Her Go-To DIY Baking Soda Face Mask

We've seen a lot of DIY face masks all over our Pinterest boards and videos on YouTube-they're extremely popular. There's just something really comforting about knowing every single ingredient that goes into a product you're going to put on your face. Plus, if you get to use ingredients you already have, you're hardly making extra effort in concocting your own skincare.

We turned to celebrity esthetician Joanna VargasВ to get her advice on how to make a proper baking soda face mask. Baking soda is a known ingredient in cleansers and exfoliants to treat acne. While we thought it would be this whole complicated ordeal, she thankfully disproved those misconceptions. This face mask is not only super effective, it is super easy to make.В

What it does: "When mixed with water, baking soda is awesome for getting rid of blackheads. You can put the mixture on the nose after the shower and all the blackheads come right out! It's best for congested skin," says Vargas.В

1 tbsp. water

1 tsp. baking soda

Instructions:В Mix baking soda with water to create a paste (she says it needs be paste so sometimes it's better to eyeball measurements). Once it looks like a paste, scrub it onto the skin and leave it on for 10 minutes. After rinsing with water, blackheads will be softer and ready to come out.

Vargas Notes:В She wouldn't recommend this mask for any other skin types other than congested. She also would do this mask twice a month if you have blackheads.В
